Now have your say!

Here is what some well known people have said:

----------------

Violence is the first refuge of the incompetent.
- Issac Asimov

Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.
- Ernest Hemingway

Join the army, meet interesting people, kill them.
- Graffiti At Bromley

War is a cowardly escape from the problems of peace.
- Thomas Mann

You can't say that civilization don't advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way.
- Will Rogers, New York Times, Dec. 23, 1929

One day President Roosevelt told me that he was asking publicly for suggestions about what the war should be called. I said at once 'The Unnecessary War'.
- Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965), Second World War (1948)

Either war is obsolete or men are.
- R. Buckminster Fuller (1895 - 1983), New Yorker, Jan. 8, 1966

Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events.
- Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.
- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?
- Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948), "Non-Violence in Peace and War"

The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it.
- George Orwell (1903 - 1950), Polemic, May 1946, "Second Thoughts on James Burnham"

War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children.
- Jimmy Carter (1924 - )

You can no more win a war than you can win an earthquake.
- Jeannette Rankin (1880 - 1973), the first Congresswoman of U.S.

War is much too serious a matter to be entrusted to the military.
- Georges Clemenceau (1841 - 1929), French leader during World War I.

Allow the President to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so, whenever he may choose to say he deems it necessary for such a purpose -- and you allow him to make war at pleasure. If today, he should choose to say he thinks it necessary to invade Canada, to prevent the British from invading us, how could you stop him? You may say to him, 'I see no probability of the British invading us' but he will say to you, 'Be silent; I see it, if you don't.'"
- Abraham Lincoln

War is a societal state of mind, unimaginative and limiting. Until we see the world in terms other than us and them, we will kill each other.

War is what happens when you try to achieve YOUR idea of peace.

War is hoping to gain something by killing, when the only thing you are guaranteed to gain is harm and hatred.

The state of war--it exists when two groups largely hostile to each other, each claim authorization and justification for their use (or future use) of armed conflict and pledge to secure that to which each believes they are somehow entitled(resources, secure borders, national respect, etc.)

War is a lack of compassion for life.

War is the inability to see that we are all connected, and the ultimate act of self loathing.

War is a raging out of control force blinded by hate, destroying life, humanity, and all that get's in it's path.

War is a desperate act by desperate fools with no soul.

War is carrying the blood, souls and images of those that you have killed until the end of time.

War is fear on hormones, with a side order of insanity.

War is a nation hording and wasting the planets resources, and simultaneously ignoring the starving masses.

War is a frenzied mob driven by fear.

War is a terrific marketing campaign, brought to you by the makers of Smith and Wesson, Halliburton, and Exxon oil, just to name a few.

War is a complacent society willing to look the other way. As long as we have monday night football, A big suv. and plenty of gas . Life is good!

War is the abuse of power motivated by greed. Cowardly standing behind innocent children being sent out for slaughter while simultaneously counting and hording ill begotten wealth. Unwilling to change the course despite overwhelming public opposition. Worshiping money and power, having no regard or respect for anything that stands between you and the accusation of wealth. Manipulating the oppressed and down trodden to commit unspeakable crimes against humanity. If we were to give a day of silence to honor every man woman and child that died in this ongoing war, we would not be able to speak until the year 2837.

War is the ultimate breakdown of society-it is loss of hope, loss of compassion and is to embark on something absolutely meaningless.

War is necessary. War accomplishes much, much more than simple slogans and pacifism. Slavery ended because of war; Nazism ended because of war. The most murderous state in history, the Soviet Union, which killed 25-60 million of its own people, was dissolved due to a "cold war".War is sexy.

War is more pleasant from a distance

War is the haven
of the narrow minded

Unatural

War is the opposite of natural selection
the strong die and the weak may survive

Old Men and War

War is the sending of the young
to fight and die because of
decisions made by the old
who do not

War is:

Ongoing insistence on difference in the struggle for superiority.

Opposing positions regarding anything, may or may not lead to conflict.

Conflict, or a battle - follows war only if other means to obtain dominance fail.

Battle, or conflict resolves back into war after victory, defeat or compromise.

Peace and compromise are illusions following cessation of battle, and might be described as an agreement to conduct war without battle, in some other format such as economics, technology, philosophy or art.

Even the urge to reproduce is a form of war, as a struggle to oppose the eventuality of death by making another person to continue your life and remember you, via this process - on into eternity, after your death.

Nothing is resolved completely.

Life is war, and war is life.

After spending more then half my career representing Michigan Public School Employees, negotiating wages, benefits; hours, terms and conditions of work, my definition of war is based on my work experiences.
Also, as a USAF Reservist-Retired, from WWII, I have had to deal with the prospect of being called up for conflicts that didn't have my personal support. I wasn't called for any, so I didn't have to confront this problem. My obligation would have been to serve.
I consider "war" as analogous to the "final impasse" in bargaining/negotiations. It is that point where all rational dialogue about issue differences and a win/win give way to the exercise blame, vengeance and animosity. The parties reject compromise. Each justifies their righteous by their own definitions. In bargaining, outside forces, public opinion, legal and even legislation may be applied in imposing a settlement. Ultimately, both parties suffer. In bargaining contracts, if the impasse permits withholding of services, it more often results in a successful settlement. Mediation and arbitration by 3rd parties offer possibilities for a no-win settlement.
In most cases, a settlement that results from an impasse (or war), leaves emotional wounds and negative attitudes among the individual participants that last a long time. I hope this adds to your search.

War is:
...what happens when people stop talking and listening to each other with respect, when an idea becomes more important than the ongoing relationship.
...what happens when people operate out of fear, not love.
...the insane notion that an idea will go away if only you kill enough people who believe it.
...people operating out of their lizard brains, imagining that someone different is thereby damaged, sub-human, and deserving of death for their audacity at threatening the status quo and their stubborn refusal to submit to another's authority.
...a continuing escalation of expenditures to decrease planetary resources.
...the short-term strategy of a privileged group (aristocracy or oligarchy) to protect its material resources by spending its human resources (the indigent people who support them and rely on them)
...a violent practice justified by carefully-crafted rhetoric that interprets actuality in ways that causes poor, ignorant, or desperate people to abandon the values taught in kindergarten
...a practice whereby healthy young people are indoctrinated to act in dangerous anti-social ways.
...abandoning hope that we can work this out as humans, by talking, and so must resort to more bestial methods.
...one hard way to learn that violence not only solves nothing; it causes untold, immeasurable problems for all on the planet for years to come.

Hey, I’m not saying I don’t want to see Megan Fox Naked. I’m just saying that Miley Cyrus Naked should have gotten more hits. Mostly because she’s actually better looking than Fox and Fox has absolutely zero talent, not to mention that she’s really stupid. I mean, not Sarah Palin stupid, but still pretty stupid. megan fox fully naked
